In Baptism, the first sacrament of initiation, a person is born again into the Living Body of Christ. He or she is given a name as a share in the Divine Life of Jesus Christ himself.

God desires the salvation of every person and he makes this possible through a rebirth in the Holy Spirit and adoption into his family and kingdom.

The signs and symbols used are water, anointing with oil, laying on of hands and presentation of a lighted candle.

Unlike ordinary symbols these actually accomplish what they signify on the spiritual level.

• Water = cleansing and life giving
• Oil = participation in the kingship of Jesus and his priesthood
• Imposition of hands = indwelling of the Holy Spirit and
• Candle = the light and life of Christ

Thank you for inquiring about Infant Baptism at St. Joseph Church Waipahu. Our Infant Baptisms are held on Saturdays and are scheduled based on availability. Please fill out the attached form by using it as a fillable form or by printing it out and filling it out manually.

• baby's BIRTH CERTIFICATE from the department of health (hospital certificates can be given in the meantime if you haven't ordered the state birth certificate, but please know the required document is baby's state birth certificate from the department of health so you will need to order it as soon as possible to turn in before baby's baptism)

  • under Baptism, input your donation amount and baby's full name
  • you may print/screenshot the donation confirmation for your records (we will receive your donation confirmation electronically)

Emailing is the preferred method of submitting the registration form & birth certificate, but if you are printing out the form and filling it out manually, please mail it to us along with a copy of baby's birth certificate from the Department of Health. Please also include the baptism registration donation of $50 or your donation amount. Checks are to be made payable to: St. Joseph Church. Our church address can be found below in the signature of this email.  

Baptisms are held on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. Your guest count is not limited and face masks are optional. Once we receive your documents, we will send the available dates of baptism and you may choose one of those dates based on availability.

Requirements for Godparent(s):

• Minimum of 1 Godparent per child to be baptized
• If you have more than 1 Godparent for your child, you must have 1 male and 1 female (not 2 males or 2 females) All others are listed as Secondary Sponsors.
• Godparents must be actively practicing Catholics:
  • At Least 16 years old
  • Baptized, Received First Holy Communion, & Confirmed in the Catholic Church
  • If married, must be married in the Catholic Church

On the day of your baby's baptism:  

• Front Doors open at 4 p.m. / Everyone must arrive by 4:15 p.m. / Baptism starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends around 5:00 p.m.
• Baby must wear all-white and everyone else must be dressed appropriately for church (face masks optional)
• The church will provide the baptismal candle per baby and white bib
• Upon entering the church, please locate your family's reserved row by looking for baby's name on one of the center aisle seats
• 7 seats in the center aisle are reserved for parents, main godparents, photographer, etc. 
• If you have more than 7 guests, all other guests must sit in the outer pews (no limit on the number of guests)
• Turn in Day of Baptism Donation of $50 or your donation amount in an envelope labeled with baby's name (donation will be collected as the baptism certificates are distributed at the end of baptism)
• Day of Baptism Donation is separate from Registration Donation so if the registration donation was not turned in when baby was signed up for baptism, you may combine both donations to be turned in on the day of baptism
